Birkirkara FC finished their magnificent season in style by winning the league-cup double after defeating league runners Mgarr United FC in the Women's Knock-Out final with a 2-0 score.

In front of a numerous attendance at the Charles Abela Stadium, the Stripes produced another electrifying performance to defeat Mgarr United and win the Knock-Out competition for a record fifteenth time.

The Stripes won seven out of the possible nine cups in the last three years and yesterday's victory meant that they are the first side to win three consecutive doubles in women's football.

Birkirkara surged ahead after eighteen minutes. A well-taken corner kick by Tracy Teuma found Stephania Farrugia that rose high to hit a fine header past goalkeeper Rachelle Borg.

The Stripes doubled their lead ten minutes from half-time. Farrugia was involved into action once again as she supplied an inch-perfect free-kick inside the box and Ann-Marie Said hit a bullet-header home.

Goalkeeper Janice Xuereb produced an excellent save early in the second half to deny Mgarr from getting back in the match following a close-range effort by Roxanne Micallef.

Nonetheless, it was the Stripes who went close to add further to their lead by goalkeeper Borg denied a fierce drive by Carabott as the Stripes held strong for the victory.

At the end of the match, Ludovico Micallef, the Malta FA Senior Vice-President, presented the Knock-Out trophy to the Birkirkara Captain, Stephania Farrugia.
