Birkirkara FC Women's Team successfully completed their task of securing back-to-back titles as in the title showdown, they produced a five-star performance that demolished Hibernians FC with a 4-1 score to win their seventh league title in history.

In front of a numerous attendance from both sides, the Stripes were in a class of their own as they dominated the big game for long stretches and it was only after the Stripes has wrapped-up the victory with four goals that Hibernians scored a consolation goal.

This was the first league title under the guidance of Coach Melania Bajada, but the second prestigious honour after the Stripes had won the BOV Women's Super Cup back in September. Coach Bajada becomes the youngest Coach and the first female Coach ever to win the league title.

The First Half

The Stripes surged ahead on the twenty-fifth minute. Playmaker Tracy Teuma delivered a perfect-inch corner kick towards the second post and Captain Stephania Farrugia hit a powerful header home to open the score.

Birkirkara doubled their lead just before the half-time whistle. Towering midfielder Gabriella Zahra won possession off Dorianne Theuma and raced forward before she hit a thunderous drive from distance that surprised goalkeeper Dorianne Grech.

The Second Half

Birkirkara continued to dominate, and they scored their third goal on the sixty-second minute. Veronique Mifsud took possession inside the box and the fifteen-year-old struck a wonderful curling shot in the left top corner to spark more celebrations on the Birkirkara bench and supporters.

Mifsud was on target again as three became four fifteen minutes from time. Farrugia's header was blocked by Grech, but from the rebound, Mifsud controlled the ball before drilling the ball home for her second personal goal and the fourth for the Stripes.

Hibernians scored a consolation goal ten minutes from time. Dorianne Theuma's wonderful free-kick hit the upright and went in. This goal was enough for Theuma to clinch the league's top scorer for Season 2017-2018.

Kevin Spiteri from BOV's PR & Marketing Dept and Ludovico Micallef, Senior Vice President of the Malta Football Association presented the trophy to the champions.
