Late goals sink Under-19's Team
by Ayrton Galea - 24th August 2016Birkirkara FC Under-19's Team suffered a very unfortunate defeat on Tuesday evening, when two goals in the last seven minutes enabled Pieta Hotspurs to come from behind and register a dramatic 3-2 victory.
The Stripes were unlucky to end the match with nothing to show for their efforts, especially following conceding a very controversial late equaliser which forced goalkeeper Andreas Vella to be unable to continue playing, before Pieta registered the winning goal on the ninetieth minute.
It was Pieta who broke the dead-lock after fifteen minutes but their lead only lasted three minutes as the Stripes made the score level thanks to a wonderful direct free-kick by Nick Borg.
Boosted by the equalizing goal, the Stripes took control of the match and following missing a number of chances by Gianluca and Clint Zammit, they turned the score in their favour with a goal by Joseph Willy four minutes from half-time. For Willy, this was his second goal in the opening two matches.
The Stripes controlled their opponents for long stretches in the second half but Pieta made the score level seven minutes from time. Havoc inside the box led Pieta for the equalizing in which from the same action goalkeeper Andreas Vella had to be substitutes.
Pieta went on registering a dramatic victory thanks to a late goal on the ninetieth minute to deny the Stripes any points from this match.
The Stripes will be seeking to return to winning ways in their next match against Sliema Wanderers on the 8 September. The match will be played at the Charles Abela Stadium and it will kick off at 19:00.
