by Clayton Schembri - 7th March 2021Birkirkara FC registered a comfortable victory on Saturday afternoon, with a very solid performance they defeated Tarxien Rainbows 3-0 and registered their second consecutive victory in the BOV Premier League.
The Stripes were streets ahead of their opponents throughout the ninety minutes and there was no doubt where the three points were going. With this victory Birkirkara remained in fourth place, four points ahead of Sliema Wanderers and reduced the gap to just two points from Gzira United.
Birkirkara went close on 31 minutes, when a Kurt Zammit cross found Yannick Yankam, but the latter's header ended wide.
Enrico Pepe rose high but headed wide a second-post corner kick by Paul Mbong just before half-time.
Coach Andre Paus introduced Federico Falcone at half-time as Birkirkara switched back to a four-man defence.
The move paid immediate dividends as two minutes into the second half the Stripes broke the deadlock, when Luke Montebello received the ball off an erratic clearance and hit low past goalkeeper Daniel Fernandes.
Tarxien almost equalised on 64 minutes, when Vito Plut squared the ball to the advancing Kooh Sohna who threw a dummy pass, but no player followed his move and the chance went begging.
However, five minutes later Birkirkara doubled the lead, when substitute Federico Falcone hit home from close range following a cross from Caio Prado.
