Birkirkara FC eliminated from the FA Trophy
by Ayrton Galea - 2nd March 2020Birkirkara FC were eliminated from the FA Trophy on Sunday evening, as they lost the penalty shoot-out against Floriana FC after the match had ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Stripes surged ahead just past the hour mark. Claudi Bonanni struck a wonderful free-kick that gave goalkeeper Ini Akpan no chance. This was Bonanni's first goal since signing with our club in January.
Floriana made the score level on the seventy-fifth minute. A low cross by Jurgen Pisani failed to be cleared by the Birkirkara defence and substitute Augusto Caseres who hit home from close range.
Matthew Guillaumier scored the only penalty for the Stripes as Isaac Ntow, Yannick Yankam and Diego Capel had their penalty kick saved by goalkeeper Akpan. Kristian Keqi, Tiago Fonseca and Terence Vella scored for the Greens.
