Under-19's Team back on track

Birkirkara FC Under-19's Team returned to winning ways in the Youths League Section A when they defeated Pembroke Athleta FC with a comfortable 3-0 score. Neil Micallef, Nick Borg and Gianluca Zammit scored a goal each for the Stripes.

Following being denied with a last-minute goal last week against Hibernians, the Stripes produced an improved performance to take the all important three points which strengthened their seventh place position while moving just four points behind Balzan.

The Stripes enjoyed an edge for long stretches in the first half and they surged ahead just before half-time. Neil Micallef slotted the ball home when he converted the rebound off a free-kick outside the box to put the Stripes with a narrow lead at the break.

Birkirkara registered the perfect start in the second half when they doubled the lead after just one minute. It was a wonderful direct free-kick by the technical Nick Borg which gave the Pembroke goalkeeper no chance.

The Stripes made sure of the three points twenty-two minutes from time. Under-17's Team forward Ayrton Attard found Gianluca Zammit who placed the ball at the back of the net with a fine finish.

Birkirkara will be involved in the next match on Thursday, 26 January against Balzan FC. The match will be played at the Centenary Stadium and it will kick off at 20:00.
