by Ayrton Galea - 14th March 2019Birkirkara FC suffered a narrow defeat on Matchday 21 of the BOV Premier League when a goal by substitute Ryan Darmanin earned Hamrun Spartans FC a vital 1-0 victory.
In a match between two teams aspiring to secure a place in European football next season, Birkirkara and Hamrun Spartans produced a drab encounter with few scoring opportunities throughout the match.
However, the Spartans were rewarded for their persistence in the second half when they notched the winning goal nine minutes from time. Marco Criaco released substitute Ryan Darmanin and the latter drilled a well-placed shot past the Birkirkara goalkeeper, Kristijan Naumovski.
