Match Report: Birkirkara FC 2-0 Floriana FC
by Ayrton Galea - 24th September 2018Birkirkara FC secured their third victory in four matches of the BOV Premier League, when two late goals by Mislav Andelkovic and substitute Jake Grech ensured a return to winning ways for the Stripes as they defeated Floriana FC with a 2-0 score in a hard-fought match.
Shaking off from a sour 3-0 defeat against Valletta FC, the Stripes needed two late goals to secure their victory over ten-men Floriana FC as the latter were forced to play for more than an entire second half with one player less, after their player Alexander Cini was sent off for double booking.
The Stripes looked that they had to settle for a goal-less draw, but Andelkovic had other ideas two minutes from time, as the Birkirkara Captain hit a thunderous volley from outside the box that gave Floriana goalkeeper no chance.
Goalkeeper Kristian Naumovski made an incredible save in the second minute of added time to deny Floriana the equaliser, but the Greens' hopes were dashed moments after as substitute Jake Grech hit a low drive home from inside the box to ensure maximum points for the Stripes.
Birkirkara FC's rapid-winger Marcelo Henrique was voted the BOV Player of the Match.
