by Ayrton Galea - 8th July 2015Birkirkara FC held a press conference before tomorrow's match against Ulisses FC at the Republican Stadium. Our Club was represented by Coach Mr. Josef Mansueto, Defender Nikola Vukanac and Club Official, Mr. Ivan Mizzi.
Coach Mansueto opened by saying, “With regards the first match, it was a very balanced match. Initially our opponents had the upper hand but we settled down and at the end we created some chances.”
“Our Club started with two objectives for these European competitions. First and most important is to play good and attractive football. This target also counts for all the matches. On the other hand, the second target is to qualify through pass the first round.”
He went on by saying, “In this match, we know we're going to play against a difficult team, we have respect for our opponents but we believe in our abilities and we hope that the better team wins. Ulisses are very strong up-front and in the midfield, but especially in the forward line. On the other hand, our strong points highlight the defence and midfield departments.”
Miccoli's inclusion in the first leg saw the Italian striker leaving a quick good impression and Mr. Mansueto praised his attitude. “Fabrizio joined our Club this season. His qualities and abilities are well-known around the world. He wasn't playing due to some fitness problems but we are optimistic that he will come to his best condition with our Club.”
With Haber recovering from an injury, Mr. Manseuto said, “Honestly, we don't know yet the situation of Haber. However, as you all know, we have a very good goalkeeper with Ini Akpan. For us it is not a major issue, it will be either or Haber or Akpan. “
On other hand, Vukanac is aware of tomorrow's difficult opponents. “Ulisses are a very strong team that comes from a stronger league than Malta. We're expecting a close game. We have been working together for the last years and we know each other well. They are playing at home and will start as favourites. We'll give our best and We'll see tomorrow.”
The victory by Malta over Armenia in an away match few years might have boosted more Birkirkara's enthusiasm to make it to the next round, but the Serbian defender remained with his feet on the ground. “They are playing at home and they will start as favourites. The players who played that match against Armenia are very looking forward together with the rest of us.”
Finally, Mr. Mansueto concluded, “Everyone would like to play against a big Club like West Ham United. There is always an extra motivation in everyone but we are only focused and we are only using all of our energy for this match. Our main concern is this match, and then we will see.
