Interview with Ayrton Attard
by Ayrton Galea - 13th March 2015The Under-15's Team are the sole-leaders in the APS Under-15's League Section A, and for this week's interview, we chose the team's captain, Ayrton Attard.
Ayrton, was part of last year's team when they won the Under-15's League Section B and went on to make it a memorable year by winning the Knockout as well. This year, he is enjoying a good season as he is the team's, and the league's top scorer with eight goals from six matches.
Who is Ayrton Attard?
I am Ayrton Attard and I am fourteen years old, turning fifteen next November. I consider myself as an enthusiastic person, and basically, my life is based on football seven-days a week.
How do you spend your regular days and how do you spend your weekends?
The first three days of the week, I train with the Under-15's National Team at Ta' Qali while the rest of the days, I train with my club, Birkirkara FC. I even do my best not to miss a match of the Senior Team in the weekend.
Do you have a favourite quote or motto?
Playing football with your feet is one thing, but playing with your heart is another.
Do you follow international football? If yes, which is your favourite nation when it comes to football, and which is your favourite club?
I never miss a game when Chelsea FC play and I support the England National team, after my country of course.
How did your love for football begin? At what age did you start playing football?
I stared with Birkirkara from the very first age group. I always had love for the game.
Are you still studying? How hard do you find it to balance school, football and personal life? How much sacrifice is involved?
I'm doing the O-Levels exams next year. I find it hard sometimes, I don't have much free time like other boys my age, but I don't regret a second of it because I'm doing the things I love and I don't imagine my life without it.
How do you describe your adventure with our Club? Do you find something special in this Club?
I believe we're special because we are always contenders for the title every season and the fact the senior team promotes youth players from our club makes me work harder for my dream every day.
How do you describe the team's performance in the league? In my opinion we started excellent, and then we struggled for a couple of games, but we're now back on track. If hopefully we get the three points next game against our rivals Valletta, we will finish the first round at the top of the league table.
How do you describe your personal performances? Are you happy with your performances or do you believe you can still improve?
Although in my view, I'm playing well, and doing what my coaches tell me to do, I believe there is always room for improvement.
What are your comments on the last match and how are you preparing for the next match?
It's always a difficult match against Hamrun. They were an important three points and I'm delighted that I helped my team by scoring two goals, and winning two-nil without some of our players missing due to injuries. We are all looking forward for the next game and three points is a must.
Do you believe in winning the title?
With our nineteen good players, and our three great coaches, yes, I believe we can win the title by far if we all work together.
What is your personal target for this season?
My personal target is to finish top scorer of the league. I'm happy to say that I already scored 8 important goals for my Club thanks to my team mates.
What is the secret for success? How much do you believe that you and your team-mates can achieve the Club's targets?
The secret, not only for this season, but for a whole football career in my opinion is to take every training session very seriously, and try to learn something different every session. Obviously if we all improve and work as a team, I believe we will be more than happy at the end of every season.
What is your final message?
I would like to say thank you to all my family who are always there to give me their full support and are always there to help me. I hope that I will play for many more years to come with the shirt I love, and win as many as trophies as possible. Come on Yellows!
