'It's not over until it's over' - Shodiya

by Ayrton Galea - 3rd January 2015

Being fifteen points behind leaders Hibernians FC, some might doubt the Stripes' chances of winning the BOV Premier League but Shola Shodiya believes that the team will be doing everything possible and the title race will not be over until it's only mathematically over.

Having re-joined the Club in the second week of October, Shola has been showing signs of improvement in his displays. Shola told us, “I am very happy to be wearing the Birkirkara FC shirt again. Since I came to Malta, everyone involved with this Club has been like a family to me and they really stood by me in my difficult times.”

Certainly that the best of Shola is yet to come, but in the last match against Qormi FC, the Nigerian striker struck twice to round off his outstanding display and handle the Stripes a 2-0 victory. He told us, “It wasn't an easy match but we played as a team, and we should keep it up. I am very happy to have scored two goals, which were the first two goals of the league. I'm obviously looking to add more to the tally in the coming weeks.”

Tomorrow afternoon, the Stripes will be seeking to start the year on a positive note when they face Mosta. Shola said, “There is a good atmosphere in the dressing room and we are well prepared for this match. We are working very hard during training, and I believe that we can walk away with the three points. “

With the pressure piling on the Stripes, we asked the Nigerian striker on the Stripes' chances of winning the BOV Premier League. “Of course I believe that we can do it. We will keep pushing forward and doing whatever is possible. It's not over yet and it won't be over until it's mathematically over.”

Shodiya concluded this interview by commenting on the Birkirkara supporters. “We really need their support. Without them, we are nothing. They are very nice to us and I ask them to keep supporting and believing in us. We will be doing our best to make them happy.”
