Birkirkara to face Valletta in Euro Cup
by Ayrton Galea - 28th June 2012Birkirkara will be involved in their third and last match of the Euro Cup when this evening they will face arch rivals and current champions Valletta.
Birkirkara bounced back with a comfortable 3-0 win over Floriana following the heavy 5-0 defeat in the first game of the same competition against Hibernians. On a positive note, last Tuesday's match was an improvement in every aspect of Birkirkara's performance.
Valletta had a good start in the Euro Cup when they managed to defeat Floriana with a narrow 2-1 score. However, in the second game they were defeated by Hibernians with a solitary goal.
Birkirkara and Valletta are both with three points in this competition, three below leaders Hibernians who so far managed to win both matches. Floriana are still searching for the first points.
Hibernians have already won this cup, whatever happens in the remaining matches. Hibernians have 6 points with one match to go. If they lose their next match, and either Birkirkara or Valletta win their next match, there will be two teams with 6 points. However, Hibernians have won both direct encounters against Birkirkara and Valletta, so according to this competitions rule, they will win the cup just the same.
Last season matches between Valletta and Birkirkara were a balanced affair, with the exception of the second round match, when Birkirkara were defeated with a 4-1 score. Valletta won three out of four with 2-1, 4-1 and 2-0 scores respectively while in the third round Birkirkara held Valletta in a 1-1 draw.
For Birkirkara, both trialists namely Omar El Ghaouti and Christel Johansan should once again be available for this match.
The match will be played at the Hibernians Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 18.30.
Come on the Stripes.
