Birkirkara to face Floriana in a direct clash for the third place
by Ayrton Galea - 30th October 2011Birkirkara will be aiming to continue on their positive performance and climb to the third place when in the only game for Monday, they will face Floriana.
In the last three matches Birkirkara had positive performances especially in the last match where they registered a comfortable 4-0 win. Without a doubt 'The Stripes' will be going into this match with a high morale and positive attitude.
Despite losing two very important players till mid-way of the first half, Floriana had good performance in their last outing against Valletta. However, they were defeated in the biggest derby of Malta.
Last season Floriana dominated Birkirkara as they won four out of the five matches played, including eliminating Birkirkara from the *BET FA Trophy. Also, this was the first time in fifteen years that Floriana ended higher than Birkirkara in the league standings. The last time that 'The Greens' ended with more points than Birkirkara was in the 1995-1996 season, one season before the start of a new, successful era of 'The Stripes'.
So far, this season these two teams met once in the Euro Cup and despite dominating the whole ninety minutes, Birkirkara failed to win and the match finished in a goal-less draw.
Angus Buhagiar is now fully recovered. That means that Shaun Bajada is the only player left out of selection for Mr. Paul Zammit.
Leaders Hibernians and runners up Valletta both lost precious points this weekend. Tomorrow's game is a perfect opportunity for Birkirkara to close the gap with these two teams and level matters with the same Floriana and Qormi.
The match will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and it is scheduled to start at 19:30. Transport from Valley Road is available and it will leave at 18:30.
Come on the Stripes!
