February Round-up

by Ayrton Galea - 1st March 2011

February has just passed, and we are going to take you through the highlights of the Birkirkara F.C. news for this month.

In this month Birkirkara continued to show inconsistency which resulted in failing in three matches out of four to grab the maximum points. 'The Stripes' registered two draws, one win and were beaten in the other game.

'The Stripes' could hardly start on a worse note as in their first match of the month they suffered an embarrassing 4-1 defeat against Qormi. One week later, in the last game of the second round they were held in a goal-less draw by Tarxien Rainbows.

The Championship Pool phase started well for Birkirkara as a good performance saw them beating Tarxien Rainbows with a score of 3-1. Thanks to this win, the gap between Valletta was reduced to six points as the Citizens were held in a 1-1 draw against Hamrun Spartans.

In the second match of this phase, Birkirkara faced Hamrun Spartans. The performance was a step back, as it decreased in level from the previous match. This resulted in a failure to take the three points as they were held in a 1-1 draw. However, the gap remained the same as Valletta had the same score of 1-1 against Marsaxlokk.

Team Statistics

As said earlier, this month Birkirkara registered only one win, two draws and one loss. They managed to score five goals, and conceded six.

Mr. Paul Zammit made use of seventeen players in total for this month. The squad collected no less than seven yellow cards.

One penalty was awarded to Birkirkara, against Hamrun Spartuns on the 27th February. On the other hand, two penalties were ordered against. The first one in the match against Qorm on the 5th February, and the other one on the 19th February against Tarxien Rainbows.

Squad changes

The squad had two changes in this month. In the beginning of February, Ibrahim Babatunde joined Birkirkara F.C. and he made his debut in the goal-less draw against Tarxien Rainbows.

On the other side, Mr. Paul Zammit lost one player from his selection as Simon Zahra was released by the Club so that he could return to Australia.
