Michael Fraser shares his thoughts

by Ayrton Galea - 29th January 2011

Before another important match that 'The Stripes' will be involved in tomorrow afternoon, we decided to talk with one of our goalkeepers, who is currently being regularly selected in the first eleven, Michael Fraser.

We had already interviewed Michael two months ago, on 22nd November, and we opened this interview by asking Michael if he is feeling more comfortable in Malta and with his team mates. Michael's first words were, "I have always felt settled and happy here, really. This is because of my team mates and the help they have given me since I arrived. I feel that I get along well with everyone and this is important for a good team spirit."

Then we turned our focus to Birkirkara's last match where 'The Stripes' emerged as winners with a 2-0 score. We asked Michael for his comments, and he said "Last match was a very important one for us to win after two disappointing results in the previous weeks. It's hard when you lose any game, and you want to get the winning feeling back as soon as you can. It was a hard game for us as Hamrun had some good chances but I think we played well enough to deserve the victory and scored 2 good goals."

This was the first clean sheet after over a month and we asked Fraser for his comments about this. "Yes it is nice to get a clean sheet. It's what the goalie and defenders all aim for. We know that if we do our job well then we have the attacking players who will score and win games for us."

Tomorrow's game is not an easy one. Michael and the rest of his team mates are all alert for this. It is evident in the goalie's comments about tomorrow's game. "Tomorrow will be another tough game, but our aims are always the same. We want to play to our strengths which is good passing and quick style of play. I believe we have the players to win tomorrow but we must be on our best form because Vittoriosa are a good team and were very close to beating us as in the previous round we had to score in the last minute to earn a draw."

With word on the street being that the title race for Birkirkara is over, we decided to ask Michael for his opinion. Michael's reply was, "I will never say the title race is over until it is mathematically impossible! We have to concentrate on securing a top six place first but after that we can push on. In my opinion we are as good a team as anyone in this league, we just need to find some more consistency."

Michael concluded this interview with a comment about the supporters. "I would like to thank our supporters for their support. I have played for two other teams before, both in the Scottish Premier League and the Birkirkara fans are the best. We have seen that they support us not only when we are winning and doing well, but in the hard times as well! I know there's been some games when we have disappointed them but we have still received great support. I hope we can give them lots of more victories to celebrate."
